ANOTHER MAUSTON MURAL!

Thanks to an art grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board, the National Endowment for the Arts, and funds from the City of Mauston a mural will be painted by Diane Dahl on the Ballentine Building in Mauston.

The mural will be directly across the street from a mural painted last year by Dahl. The theme centers on the history of Juneau County, the land and its agriculture.

You can be a part of the mural in several different ways.

  1. SUGGEST historic or current people to be included in the mural, people who have made a difference or influenced Juneau County. The figures will be painted in the windows of the now Carpets to Go building.
  2. VOLUNTEER TO PAINT. Students, citizens, children are welcome to come and add their mark to the mural.

Call or write Diane Dahl at 608-547-9709 or dldahl@mchsi.com.

The proposed design has been approved by the Planning Commission. Work will begin immediately.

TA-DA!!!!!

The Spirit of Juneau County Mural Project
IS NOW COMPLETE! It took 3 weeks to paint, Tell me what you think!!!
I've applied for a second grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board which The City of Mauston has agreed to back for another mural in the city. Where should it be, what should it communicate?

LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE BUILDING IS CHOSEN!

You are invited to help with the painting of the mural at Jorgenson Chiropractic- across from Hatch Public Library in Mauston! CALL ME to make sure I'm there working or to schedule a time.
Here's the approved design. Notice that I have used the submissions as posters on the brick wall. If you submitted a design please call me, I would love you to come and paint your "poster" on the wall.
I am also looking for a man, a woman, and a child to pose for the mural. I would like them to be sitting on the benches.

Next step in the project is to create a traveling art show which will move around the county to visible places- businesses and public spaces. It will spread the word of our wonders. And who knows, maybe, just maybe, it will make one of us smile when we're down and think "it's not so bad, I'm luckier than I remember". And they'll smile at someone who'll smile at someone . . .
LET ME KNOW IF YOU KNOW OF A BUSINESS INTERESTED IN HOSTING THE ART SHOW!

I have received my first written submission by writer Sandy Williams. How beautifully she's put it:
Bluffs abound,
lakes lap with tides.
The heart of friends,
souls of pride.
Nature talking on trail rides.

There were two more art submissions for the mural. One is by artist Valerie Dayon. Valerie talked about the farms and the simple life that make living in our area special and captured it in her painting.

And the other is by artist and New Lisbon Art teacher Terri Fish-Scott. The lakes, the stars are such a magical part of living in Juneau County. Sometimes it's not appreciated until you try to appreciate the evening sky in a populated area where light pollution washes away the view.

It doesn’t have to be flat!

This submission for the 'What’s Great in Juneau County Mural' is from Sue Stout of Mauston and is painted on a gourd! Sue writes that, “I wanted to show what’s best of all four seasons in our area. SPRING is trumpet vines, wild roses, purple cone flowers and ruby throated humming birds, SUMMER: trumpet vines, wild roses, purple cone flowers and ruby throated humming birds,AUTUMN: a chickadee on a wrought iron fence, multicolored maple leaves, of red yellow and orange, with a strand of red berries, and WINTER is a beautiful red cardinal on a snow covered pine tree, with a snow covered group of elderberries.

What’s beautiful to you in each season? Let me know by writing, or painting or just plain talking it up.
